Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery opened in November 2001 and is based on Venerable Master Hsing Yun‘s ideal and dedication to build a Pure Land through Humanistic Buddhism, is an expression of virtue, compassion and wisdom. As the virtues and profundity of life can be reflected in art, the gallery aims to encourage an appreciation of traditional and contemporary concepts of Eastern philosophy and culture.
Set in the heart of Melbourne, the gallery transposes art and cultural appreciation into a whole new experience as it offers a tranquil oasis from the noise and stress of today’s city environment. There is an Exhibition Room, a Tea House and Meditation Room within the building. Apart from viewing the series of world-class exhibitions, you can take the opportunity to enjoy the diverse vegetarian menu and special blends of tea offered at the Tea House. Or simply drop in the meditate or relax in the Meditation Hall.
On entering the building, serenity and calm energy can be immediately felt. Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery offers a genuine insight into the colourful Eastern culture of the past and present.

While viewers can appreciate the exhibitions at their own pace, free guided tours can be arranged. Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery is a non-profit organisation and most exhibitions are entry by donation.
Lunch at the Tea House
The Tea House at Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery offers those who appreciate delicious vegetarian food, a diverse menu of delightful dishes and a selection of fine teas. The relaxed ambience and fuss-fee food presentation almost disguises the creative and texture that goes into the preparation of each dish.
Meditation Hall and Main Shrine
Located upstairs away from the exhibition room and tea house, the meditation hall and main shrine allows visitors the opportunity to pray and make light offerings or simply to enter into the timeless space of meditation.
The meditation hall is a quiet room for meditation that is equipped with soft lighting, subtle incense and comfortable meditation mats. It is the ideal atmosphere for people who work around the city to sit still, relax and meditate.
